Bamburi: the resort coast

Bamburi is Mombasa's main resort strip — the stretch of coast from Nyali north through Bamburi to Shanzu where international hotels (Sarova Whitesands, PrideInn, Severin) have dominated for decades. The beach here is the widest and most developed on the north coast.

Bamburi Beach — broad, well-maintained, resort hotels alternating with beach bars and local fishermen's boats.
Haller Park — a remarkable ecological restoration project built on former cement quarry wasteland. Now a wildlife sanctuary with hippos, giraffes, giant tortoises and primates. Outstanding for families.
Mombasa Marine National Park — offshore coral reef, glass-bottomed boats and snorkelling.

Short-stay apartments in Bamburi offer excellent beach access at 30–60% less than hotel rates.

Bamburi: frequently asked

Is Bamburi or Diani better?
Bamburi is closer to Mombasa city and better for combining beach with city visits. Diani is more remote, white sand, more pristine. Bamburi for convenience; Diani for the classic Kenya beach holiday.
What is Haller Park Bamburi?
One of Kenya's most remarkable conservation stories — a former Bamburi Cement quarry completely rehabilitated into a biodiverse wildlife park over 40 years. Hippos, Rothschild's giraffes, bushbucks, giant Aldabra tortoises and hundreds of birds all inhabit the reclaimed land.
What water sports are available at Bamburi?
Jet skiing, snorkelling, glass-bottomed boat tours to Mombasa Marine Park, dhow cruises, kitesurfing (seasonal), deep sea fishing, and kayaking. Most water sports operators are based along the Bamburi beach road.
