Why Malindi

Malindi is Kenya's oldest surviving coastal settlement — Arab traders, Portuguese explorers, and Swahili culture layered over centuries. Today it has a large Italian expat community that has created an excellent restaurant scene alongside fresh seafood market culture. The Old Town is a UNESCO candidate, the Marine National Park has Kenya's best accessible coral, and Silversands Beach stretches for kilometres.

Malindi offers a more laid-back, community feel than Diani's resort strip. Apartments and beach cottages predominate, with good spread from studios to large villa compounds.

Getting to Malindi
