Tokyo: frequently asked

What is Tokyo like?
Tokyo is simultaneously the world's largest city and one of its most orderly, safe and beautiful. The food scene (most Michelin stars of any city), the transport (never a delayed train), the service culture (omotenashi) and the layered neighbourhood personalities make it uniquely extraordinary.
How many days do you need in Tokyo?
5–7 days for a solid introduction: Shinjuku, Shibuya crossing, Harajuku, Nakameguro, Asakusa, teamLab digital art, a day trip to Nikko or Kamakura. Tokyo rewards weeks.
Is Tokyo expensive?
Less expensive than its reputation suggests. Food is affordable even at excellent quality (ramen ¥900, sushi standing bar ¥2,000). Accommodation is the main expense. The cheap-end (capsule hotels, budget apartments) is remarkably good quality.
