Porto's best neighbourhoods

Ribeira — the UNESCO-listed riverside quarter. Colourful houses stacked above the Douro, restaurants, boat tours to wine estates upriver. Most atmospheric but touristy.
Bonfim — Porto's up-and-coming neighbourhood. Good value, the best new restaurants, local life.

Getting around Porto

The Metro covers the centre and extends to Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (25 minutes). Historic trams serve the riverside. Porto is very walkable in the centre but very hilly — comfortable shoes essential.
