Masaki and Oyster Bay — Dar's diplomatic and expat peninsula. Restaurants, bars, Indian Ocean views, Slipway marina. Premium but quieter than city centre.
Mikocheni — mid-range residential, increasingly popular with short-stay guests.
City Centre / Kariakoo — commercial heart. Vibrant and authentic but not recommended for first-time visitors' overnight stays.

Dar is the main entry point for Tanzania's experiences. Zanzibar: 90 minutes by fast ferry. Northern safari circuit (Serengeti, Ngorongoro): fly 1 hour to Kilimanjaro airport or Arusha, or drive 8–10 hours. Kilimanjaro: fly from Julius Nyerere Airport to Kilimanjaro Airport.
