What we need

What it takes to be approved

We check every driver properly, because a rider who trusts the fleet books again. Nothing here is unusual. If you already drive commercially in Nairobi you almost certainly have it.

You

  • Kenyan national ID or valid passport
  • Driving licence held for at least three years
  • PSV badge, current
  • Certificate of good conduct issued within the last twelve months
  • A smartphone that can run the driver console and share location

Your vehicle

  • Logbook in your name, or a signed owner authority
  • Comprehensive insurance with PSV cover, current
  • Valid NTSA inspection certificate
  • Working seatbelts on every seat and a clean interior
  • 2014 or newer for Economy, 2018 or newer for Comfort and above

The standard

  • Accept or decline quickly, so riders are not left waiting
  • Arrive at the pick-up point, not the general area
  • Help with luggage on airport and transfer work
  • Keep the rating above 4.6 across your last fifty trips
  • Take the induction before your first trip. It takes an hour
Classes

Your car decides what work you get offered

Every driver starts on Economy. Once your documents and vehicle are verified we clear you for the classes your car qualifies for, and higher classes pay considerably more per kilometre. You cannot promote your own car. An inspection decides it.

The process

From application to your first trip

Four stages, usually done inside a week. We tell you where you stand at every one of them rather than leaving you guessing.

STAGE 01

Apply on this page

About five minutes. Your details, your vehicle, and the M-Pesa number you want to be paid on. You do not need to upload anything yet.

Today
STAGE 02

Send your documents on WhatsApp

We reply on the number you gave us with a checklist. Photograph each document and send them in one message. We record the expiry date on every one so we can warn you before anything lapses.

Within a few hours of applying
STAGE 03

Vehicle check and induction

You bring the car to us in Nairobi for a short physical inspection, and we run the induction in the same visit. This is where your class is decided. Budget about ninety minutes in total.

Two to five days after your documents clear
STAGE 04

Go online and start earning

Your account is approved and the driver console opens. Tap online, share your location, and trips start coming to your phone. Your first payout lands the following Monday.

Same day as your inspection, in most cases
Apply

Join the first Nairobi fleet

Five minutes, no documents needed yet, no fee at any stage.

About you

The name on your licence, and a number we can reach you on today.

A PSV badge is required before your first trip. If you do not have one yet you can still apply, and we will tell you how to get it.

This is a request, not a decision. The inspection sets your final class, and you may be cleared for more than one.

Payouts run every Monday morning for the week that just ended. There is no minimum balance and no withdrawal charge from our side.

Application received

We have your details. The next step is your documents, and the fastest way to send them is WhatsApp.

Your reference .

What happens next

  • Send your document photos on WhatsApp using the button below. One message is fine.
  • We review them and reply within two working days with a yes, a no, or exactly what is missing.
  • If it is a yes, we book you in for the vehicle check and induction in Nairobi.
  • You are approved the same day as the inspection in most cases, and can go online straight after.

Driver questions

What does Cabana actually take?

Ten percent of the fare. Nothing else. There is no joining fee, no weekly subscription, no charge for the app, and no deduction for support or dispatch. On a KSh 1,000 trip you receive KSh 900. The rider sees that split on their own fare breakdown before they book, which is deliberate: it keeps us honest with both of you.

When exactly am I paid?

Every Monday morning, covering the week from Monday to Sunday just ended. Payment goes to the M-Pesa number on your account. There is no minimum balance to reach and no withdrawal fee from us. Cash fares stay with you and are reconciled against your account on the same weekly cycle.

Do I have to hit a target or stay online for set hours?

No. There is no daily target, no minimum shift and no penalty for being offline. What does matter is what you do when you are online: if you take a trip, take it properly, and if you cannot, decline it quickly so the rider goes to somebody who can.

Can I drive a car that is not in my name?

Yes, with a signed authority from the registered owner and a copy of their ID alongside the logbook. The insurance must cover you by name as a driver. If you drive for a fleet owner, the owner can register the vehicles and add you as a driver on them.

What is airport and chauffeur work, and how do I get it?

Fixed-price airport transfers and full-day chauffeur bookings pay considerably more than a metered city trip, and they are assigned rather than broadcast. Drivers become eligible after fifty completed trips with a rating of 4.8 or better, a Comfort-class vehicle or above, and the extended induction covering arrivals protocol and luggage handling.

What happens if a document expires?

We record the expiry date on every document when you join and warn you three weeks, one week and one day before. On the expiry date the account pauses automatically and you stop receiving trips. Send the renewed document and you are back online the same day. Nothing is deleted and you do not reapply.

Is my location tracked when I am offline?

No. Your phone reports position only while you are online in the driver console. Go offline and the reporting stops. While you are online, riders never see your position until you have accepted their trip, and after that they see only your car on the way to them.
